BACCO Expresses Concern Over Allegations Surrounding Betopia Group

The Bangladesh Association of Contact Center and Outsourcing (BACCO) has expressed deep concern over recent allegations of irregularities and unethical practices involving Betopia Group, a Bangladeshi outsourcing company, in the international marketplace.

As the country’s sole and central trade association representing the BPO, ITES and outsourcing industry, BACCO believes that a proper inquiry and impartial investigation are essential to establish the facts surrounding such allegations. At the same time, BACCO has expressed concern that the actions of any individual or organization should not adversely affect the international reputation and credibility that Bangladesh’s broader freelancing and outsourcing sector has built over the years.

Recently, various allegations against Betopia Group have been reported in the media, including allegations of unethical account management, manipulation of reviews, and interference with the activities of other professional freelancers on the international freelancing platform Fiverr. BACCO has stated that determining the veracity of these allegations should be the responsibility of the relevant authorities and responsible institutions through an appropriate investigation process. In this regard, BACCO has called for a transparent, impartial and unbiased investigation based on verification of information and statements from all concerned parties, rather than relying on any preconceived notion or unilateral decision.

BACCO has further stated that if the allegations are substantiated through due process, appropriate action should be taken against the concerned individuals or organizations in accordance with applicable laws, the policies of the relevant platforms, and institutional rules and regulations, in order to safeguard the reputation and professional environment of Bangladesh’s freelancing and outsourcing sector in the international marketplace. At the same time, BACCO emphasizes that numerous organizations and professionals across the country’s BPO, ITES and freelancing sectors have been providing services in international markets with integrity, expertise and professionalism for many years. Therefore, the responsible role of all relevant stakeholders is crucial to ensuring that any isolated allegation does not adversely affect the entire industry.

BACCO expects that a proper verification of the allegations through due process will clarify the facts of the matter and that necessary measures will be taken to safeguard the trust, reputation and professional standing of Bangladesh’s freelancing and outsourcing sector in the international arena. BACCO seeks the cooperation of all relevant stakeholders in building a transparent, ethical and internationally credible outsourcing ecosystem.
