Business Community Welcomes India’s Move to Resume Tourist Visas for Bangladeshis

The business community has warmly welcomed India's decision to resume tourist visa services for Bangladeshi nationals starting June 28, describing the move as a significant step toward strengthening economic cooperation, boosting people-to-people connectivity, and restoring confidence in bilateral relations.

Expressing strong optimism, Md. Moshiur Rahman, President of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI), hailed the development as a deeply positive signal for trade, tourism, healthcare, and cultural exchanges between the two neighboring countries.

"We are very happy with this decision," Rahman said, noting that the resumption of regular travel marks a turning point for cross-border collaboration and commerce.

According to him, thousands of Bangladeshis travel to India every year for medical treatment, tourism, education, business meetings, and family visits. The suspension and restrictions on tourist visas in recent years had created significant challenges for travelers and affected several sectors that rely on frequent movement between the two countries.

"The reopening of tourist visa services will help revive business activities, facilitate investment discussions, and create new opportunities for entrepreneurs and traders on both sides of the border," Rahman added.

He emphasized that easier travel would particularly benefit small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), importers, exporters, and service providers who depend on regular interactions with Indian counterparts. Improved mobility, he said, would contribute to stronger supply chain linkages and encourage greater bilateral trade.

Business leaders also believe the decision will provide relief to thousands of Bangladeshi patients who seek specialized medical treatment in India every year. Access to timely visa services is expected to ease travel arrangements for patients and their attendants, reducing uncertainty and improving healthcare access.

Industry stakeholders noted that the resumption of tourist visas comes at a crucial time when both countries are looking to expand economic engagement and enhance regional connectivity. They said increased travel would support hospitality, aviation, retail, and tourism-related industries while promoting stronger cultural and social bonds.

Rahman expressed hope that the latest development would pave the way for further initiatives aimed at facilitating trade and investment between Bangladesh and India.

"We look forward to seeing more measures that simplify travel procedures, strengthen business cooperation, and deepen economic integration between our two countries," he said.

The IBCCI president further underscored the importance of maintaining regular dialogue between government authorities and the private sector to address trade barriers and unlock new areas of collaboration.

Business leaders across sectors have welcomed the announcement, viewing it as a confidence-building measure that reflects the enduring importance of Bangladesh-India relations. They believe the move will not only enhance people-to-people contact but also contribute to greater economic growth and regional prosperity.

India remains one of Bangladesh's largest trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching several billion dollars annually. Analysts say improved travel access can further accelerate commercial engagement, encourage new investments, and support long-term economic cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
