China Calls for Easier FDI Rules as Bangladesh Bank Reaffirms Investor-Friendly Policies

DHAKA, July 23, 2026 — China has called for further easing of foreign direct investment (FDI) procedures in Bangladesh as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, trade and investment amid growing commercial engagement.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Bangladesh Bank Governor at the central bank headquarters in the city on Thursday, where the two sides exchanged views on enhancing economic collaboration and creating a more favorable investment environment for foreign businesses.

During the meeting, Ambassador Yao underscored the importance of simplifying Bangladesh's FDI approval and operational processes, saying that a more efficient regulatory framework and stronger investment protection mechanisms would encourage greater participation by Chinese companies in Bangladesh's expanding economy.

The envoy noted that easier capital movement, transparent regulations and enhanced investor confidence would help attract more Chinese enterprises to invest in key sectors, further strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries.

China remains one of Bangladesh's largest trading partners and an important source of investment in infrastructure, manufacturing, energy and industrial development. The ambassador reiterated Beijing's commitment to expanding mutually beneficial economic cooperation and supporting Bangladesh's development ambitions through increased investment and business partnerships.

Responding to the Chinese envoy, the Bangladesh Bank Governor reaffirmed the central bank's commitment to maintaining a business-friendly investment climate for foreign investors.

The governor said Bangladesh Bank has already introduced a series of policy reforms aimed at facilitating foreign investment and improving the ease of doing business. The measures ensure that overseas investors can repatriate both their invested capital and legitimate profits to their home countries without unnecessary regulatory obstacles.

The central bank chief also highlighted Bangladesh's continued efforts to strengthen financial governance, improve regulatory transparency and support sustainable foreign investment that contributes to economic growth, employment generation and technology transfer.

The meeting reflected the shared commitment of Dhaka and Beijing to further deepen economic and financial cooperation as Bangladesh seeks greater foreign investment to accelerate industrialization, export diversification and sustainable development.

With Chinese investment continuing to expand across strategic sectors, both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining close engagement to unlock new opportunities in trade, finance and investment under the longstanding Bangladesh-China partnership.
