Gas ships arrive, easing energy pressure.
Two more large ships carrying a significant amount of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) from India and Malaysia have arrived at the outer anchorage of Chattogram port.
Additionally, at least four more ships carrying LPG and LNG from various countries are expected to arrive in Bangladesh this month to ensure a steady fuel supply, Chattogram Port Secretary Syed Refaet Hamim confirmed this today.
He mentioned that two ships transporting LPG from Malaysia and 'Gas Carriage' from India have successfully anchored at the outer anchorage of Chattogram port on Saturday night. Currently, these two ships are positioned at Charlie and Bravo points of the port. Port sources indicated that the unloading process of gas through lighterage ships will commence shortly.
Continuing with the import process, a large ship named 'Kongtong' is set to arrive from the United States with LNG today. Following that, another ship named 'Paul' is expected from Malaysia on Monday.
As part of the government's strategic plan to address the energy crisis, more imports are scheduled in the coming days. Information from the Chattogram Port Authority indicates that an LNG-carrying ship named 'Maran Gas Hydra' from Australia will reach the country on April 15, followed by another ship named 'Lobito' on April 18.
Experts anticipate that the staggered arrival of these ships will significantly alleviate the LPG and industrial gas shortages in the local market. The ongoing conflicts and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have led to global energy market instability. Despite these challenges, the Bangladesh government is actively importing oil and gas from various sources to mitigate the impact of the energy crisis.
The government's primary objective is to ensure continuous power generation and industrial operations by balancing domestic production with imports. This substantial gas import is crucial for enhancing the country's energy security during these challenging times.
