Govt. takes nationwide programme to protect local fish species: Tuku

Government promotes indigenous fish conservation, boosting nationwide production.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku today said the government has taken different programmes to conserve indigenous fish species across the country aiming to meet its demand. 

He said the programmes will increase fish production as well as will help to meet the demand for fish.

The state minister made the remarks while talking to journalists after releasing fish fry in Garail Beel of Tangail Sadar upazila this morning.

Tuku said to preserve indigenous fish species and increase fish production; fish fries are being released in government water bodies, ponds and beels as well as private ponds and water bodies across the country under the initiatives of the Fisheries Department.

He urged all to refrain from using all types of harmful fishing gears, including Chinese nets, in fishing. 

Tuku said there is a need to increase public awareness in addition to enforcing the law in this regard.

Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Additional Deputy Sanjoy Kumar Mohanta, Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahin Miah, former member secretary of Tangail district unit of BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu, Tangail Sadar Upazila BNP President Md Azgar Ali and Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer Mohammad Ayub Ali were present.
