Dinajpur-6 to become free of earthen roads, minister says.
Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain today said there will be no earthen roads in four upazilas of the Dinajpur-6 constituency in line with the countrywide development continuation.
Development works, including paving of all dirt roads, will be carried out gradually at all levels here, he said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting on Kushdah Union Parishad ground in Nawabganj Upazila here.
Speaking as the chief guest, he said as per the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, measures must be taken to bring all those, who voted BNP in the last elections, under the BNP banner and party membership.
To this end, he instructed the BNP leaders and activists in every union to begin work immediately on making new BNP members.
Zahid said by granting party membership to supporters in this manner, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman wishes to acknowledge the love and support they demonstrated by voting for the BNP and helping to form the government.
He called upon the grassroots leaders and activists of BNP to implement this initiative through a proper verification and selection process.
He said the BNP government has just completed seven months of its tenure.
As part of the government's nationwide development programme, visible development work will be carried out across all sectors in the four upazilas of Dinajpur-6, including roads, educational institutions, mosques, temples, churches, graveyards, and crematoriums , the minister said.
“We came to you seeking votes during the last national elections. The promises we made to you at that time will be implemented in phases, Insha Allah,” he added.
Zahid emphasised that relying solely on law enforcement is insufficient; every family must take the initiative to provide their children with a proper education.
While the government will assist in shaping children into capable citizens, parents must also remain vigilant to ensure their children do not fall prey to drug abuse, he said.
He urged all to work towards eradicating drugs from society through collective social efforts.
Nawabganj Upazila BNP President Md Tariqul Islam, District BNP Vice-President Md Atiqur Rahman Raja, its General Secretary Md Iqbal Hossain, Upazila BNP Advisory Council member Md Manjurul Islam Fateh and local BNP leaders Md Habibur Rahman and Md Ashraful Kabir, were present, among others.
