Crackdown on illegal arms continues across district
Police in Pabna have arrested a man with an illegal firearm and ammunition during a targeted operation conducted by the District Intelligence Branch (DB), reinforcing ongoing efforts to curb crime and ensure public safety.
The drive took place in the Ishwardi thana area on March 30, 2026. Acting on a tip-off, a DB team positioned themselves in Piyarpur Bazar under Ward No. 3 of Ishwardi Municipality around 4:25 PM. Detectives soon identified a suspected person moving suspiciously and pursued him along the road adjacent to Piyarpur Courtpara Jame Mosque before successfully apprehending him.
The detainee was identified as Md. Golam Rabbani, 34. A subsequent search led to the recovery of an eight-chamber iron revolver and eight rounds of 22 bore ammunition. Officers also seized a Nokia feature phone from his possession.
During preliminary interrogation, Rabbani reportedly admitted that he had been carrying the arms illegally for sale and potential use in criminal activities. He was unable to provide any legal documents authorizing possession of the weapon.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that a case is being prepared under the Arms Act.
