Love, betrayal and revenge end in murder
Police in Bera Upazila have uncovered the mystery behind the brutal killing of an auto-rickshaw driver, arresting three suspects including the victim’s wife and her former husband. The dececised, Fazlul Haq (45), was found dead days after going missing, in what authorities initially described as a “clueless” murder.
The arrests were made during a special drive on Monday (March 30, 2026). Police identified the suspects as Mst. Josna Khatun (44), her former husband Md. Manik (47), believed to be the mastermind, and his associate Md. Khokon Pramanik (42).
According to investigators, Fazlul Haq went missing on March 19 after leaving home with his auto-rickshaw. The following morning, his throat-slit body was recovered from a paddy field in the Baro Bashila area. A murder case was filed at Bera Police Station, triggering an intensive investigation.
Police Inspector Md. Lalbur Rahman said the killing stemmed from a complex relationship involving extramarital affairs and family disputes. Josna reportedly maintained secret contact with Manik even after returning to her husband, leading to tension and clash within the family.
Investigators revealed that the trio planned the murder and carried it out in an isolated field, where Fazlul was attacked with a sharp weapon before his body was dumped in a paddy field.
Officer-in-Charge Nitai Chandra Sarkar confirmed that the case was solved swiftly using information technology. The accused were produced before the court on Monday.
