Japan highlights MEXT scholarship for specialised training colleges

The Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh has highlighted an opportunity for Bangladeshi students to pursue practical, career-focused higher education in Japan through the Japanese government’s MEXT Scholarship programme for Specialized Training Colleges, known as Senshu Gakko.

The embassy recently shared information about the programme on its official Facebook page, drawing attention to the specialised training colleges that provide post-secondary education with an emphasis on technical skills, vocational training and practical career preparation.

Under the MEXT scholarship, international students can study at designated Japanese specialised training colleges. The programme is designed for students seeking professional and technical education rather than a conventional university pathway.

According to information published by the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, the scholarship covers a three-year programme, including one year of preparatory education in Japanese and other subjects before students enter a specialised training college.

The programme offers study opportunities in several broad areas, including technology, personal care and nutrition, education and welfare, business, fashion and home economics, and culture and general education.

For Bangladeshi applicants, the embassy's published information says candidates generally need to be between 17 and 25 years old and have completed 12 years of schooling, or an equivalent level of education. Applicants also need to meet the specific requirements set out in the relevant MEXT application guidelines.

The selection process under the embassy recommendation route includes document screening followed by written examinations. For the Specialized Training College programme, the examinations include English, Japanese and mathematics under the published scholarship information.

The Embassy of Japan has also noted that MEXT scholarship applications for Bangladeshi students are handled through the Ministry of Education, Bangladesh, as part of the embassy recommendation process. The embassy's current scholarship page lists the Specialized Training College programme among the MEXT categories available to Bangladeshi applicants.

The embassy's 2026 archive shows that the MEXT Scholarship for 2027 was announced in April 2026, while the current Specialized Training College application for 2027 is listed as closed. Prospective applicants are therefore advised to monitor official announcements from the Embassy of Japan and Bangladesh's Ministry of Education for future application cycles.

The programme could be particularly attractive to students looking to gain hands-on professional skills and specialised training in Japan, while also experiencing Japanese language and education.
