Health minister highlights doctors’ round-the-clock healthcare services
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain today said the country's doctors have been providing healthcare services round the clock despite facing numerous limitations.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion as the chief guest after inaugurating the vertical expansion and upgrading of the National Institute of Ear, Nose and Throat to a 250-bed facility in the city's Tejgaon area, said a press release.
The minister said various initiatives are being taken to enhance the skills of Bangladeshi doctors and provide them with opportunities to gain international experience.
"Cooperation and progress are underway with various international organisations, including those in China and Pakistan, to expand higher training and fellowship opportunities for doctors," he said.
Sakhawat also urged the media and journalists to understand the realities and challenges faced by doctors in providing healthcare services.
He advised health service professionals to maintain a positive attitude towards correcting any shortcomings or mistakes through constructive discussions in the media.
The minister said it is impossible to build a prosperous economy without a healthy and strong population.
"Therefore, all concerned need to be more sincere in ensuring healthcare services for people at the grassroots while upholding the noble status and dignity of the medical profession," he said.
Director of the National Institute of Ear, Nose and Throat Professor Dr Md Hasan Zafar presided over the discussion.
Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) President Professor Dr Harun Al Rashid and Secretary General Dr Md Zohirul Islam Shakil, and Management Board Chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute Professor Dr AKM Azizul Hoque spoke at the programme.
