Healthcare partnership brings hope to children
The government has inaugurated a new outpatient unit at Bangladesh Shishu Hospital & Institute in Dhaka, marking a significant step toward improving healthcare access for children, particularly from underprivileged communities.
Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hussain formally opened the facility on Thursday at a brief ceremony held on the hospital premises. The unit was constructed with support from Beximco Pharmaceuticals PLC as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The event was attended by Director General of Health Services Prof Dr Pravath Chandra Biswas, hospital board chairman Prof Dr AKM Azizul Hoque, hospital director Prof Dr Mahbubul Haque, and icddr,b Executive Director Prof Dr Tahmeed Ahmed, among other officials.
Hospital authorities said the new outpatient unit is expected to significantly enhance patient capacity and streamline treatment services, easing pressure on existing facilities. It will particularly benefit low-income families seeking specialised paediatric care.
Speaking at the function, Prof Hoque praised the private sector’s growing role in strengthening healthcare infrastructure, noting that such collaborations are crucial for expanding service delivery in resource-constrained settings.
Beximco Pharma Chief Operating Officer Rabbur Reza reiterated the company’s commitment to public health, stating that its CSR initiatives aim to improve access to care, especially during times of national health challenges.
In response to a recent measles outbreak affecting children, the company has also donated three ventilators to the Ministry of Health, supporting emergency treatment efforts.
The initiative reflects a broader push for public-private partnerships to address Bangladesh’s evolving healthcare demands.
