Bangladesh team wins gold, two bronze at climate change Olympiad in Russia
DHAKA, Oct 2, 2026 — Bangladesh has secured a gold medal, two bronze medals and a merit certificate at the International Olympiad on Climate Change and Environmental Issues (IOCE 2026) held in Russia.
The competition took place at the Sirius Federal Territory in Sochi, where the Bangladesh team competed against participants from different countries.
Abu Mahzoorah Ayman secured the gold medal, finishing first worldwide with a perfect score of 100 out of 100.
SM Anfal Habib and Fabiha Nurjina won bronze medals, while Ismah Aroush received a merit certificate, according to the organisers.
The students underwent months of intensive preparation before travelling to Russia. Their preparations included workshops in Dhaka, followed by fieldwork and laboratory activities before they took part in the international competition at Sirius in Sochi.
The performance has been described as a significant achievement for Bangladesh in an international competition focused on climate change and environmental issues.
The Bangladesh Olympiad on Climate Change and Environmental Issues (BOCE) played a key role in preparing the team and supporting the students throughout their participation.
The achievement also highlights the growing importance of scientific education, environmental awareness and climate-related knowledge among young Bangladeshis.
Organisers congratulated the members of Team Bangladesh and thanked the individuals and organisations involved in their preparation and participation in IOCE 2026.
