Ambassador Yao Wen Pledges Deeper China-Bangladesh Health Cooperation
DHAKA, July 22, 2026 — Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to strengthening health and humanitarian cooperation with Bangladesh while paying tribute to the victims of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) aircraft accident during a first-anniversary commemoration held in Dhaka.
The event, organized by the Bangladeshi side on July 21 at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, brought together senior government leaders, foreign diplomats, military representatives and family members of the victims to remember those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Among those present were Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of the Hon'ble Prime Minister and Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M. A. Muhith, alongside ambassadors and diplomats accredited to Bangladesh.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Yao expressed profound condolences to the victims and conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the injured and their families. He recalled that China extended assistance immediately after the accident, describing the support as a reflection of the enduring friendship and solidarity between the peoples of China and Bangladesh during difficult times.
The Chinese envoy said Beijing remains committed to working closely with Dhaka to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. He emphasized expanding practical cooperation in healthcare and medical services as part of broader efforts to build a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.
According to Ambassador Yao, enhanced collaboration in the health sector will further strengthen bilateral ties and deliver tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
During the ceremony, Dr. Zubaida Rahman presented commemorative badges to Ambassador Yao and several other members of the diplomatic corps in recognition of their support following the tragedy. She also handed over a letter of appreciation addressed to the Chinese medical team, acknowledging its contribution to the emergency response and treatment of victims.
The event highlighted the growing humanitarian dimension of China-Bangladesh relations, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation in public health, emergency medical response and people-centered development.
