Thakurgaon-1 by-election candidacy withdrawal deadline ends today
The deadline for withdrawing candidacy for Thakurgaon-1 by-election is going to be ended today.
Election Commission (EC) officials said according to the EC schedule, symbols will be allocated to the candidates tomorrow (October 8).
Voting for this constituency will take place continuously from 8 am to 4 pm on October 29.
A list of valid candidates was published on September 29 in a notification issued by EC.
The candidates declared valid are: Mirza Faisal Amin (nominated by BNP), Delwar Hossain (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami), Md Abdul Alim Nizami (Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan), Md. Khademul Islam (Islami Andolan Bangladesh), and Hussain Muhammad Omar Faruq (Bangladesh Congress).
Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat, said there were 507,203 voters in this constituency during the 13th national elections held on February 12 last.
However, with the recent inclusion of new voters, the total number of voters in the constituency now stands at 515,525.
The Thakurgaon-1 constituency was declared vacant after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Member of Parliament elected from it, assumed the office of the President.
