AI tools reshape NGO accountability framework
A workshop in Dhaka has highlighted the growing role of digital innovation and artificial intelligence (AI) in strengthening governance, efficiency and accountability in the NGO sector.
The orientation, titled “NGOAB Online Solution and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for NGOs,” was organised by the NGO Affairs Bureau in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, with support from the Australian Government under the ISPAT project.
The event brought together government officials, development partners and NGO representatives to explore how technology can modernise service delivery and improve operational effectiveness.
Speaking as chief guest, NGOAB Director General (in-charge) Barrister Md Khalilur Rahman Khan emphasised that AI should complement human decision-making rather than replace it, urging balanced and responsible use of technology.
Chair of the session, Dr K M Mamun Uzzaman, stressed that adopting digital tools is now essential, but must be guided by ethical considerations and accountability.
Representatives from the Australian High Commission and UNDP highlighted the importance of ensuring that technological advancements benefit people while addressing risks such as data privacy, misinformation and digital inequality.
A key feature of the workshop was the demonstration of the NGOAB Online Solution, designed to replace manual processes with a fully digital system for registration, application tracking and payments.
Experts also showcased practical uses of AI, including data analysis, compliance support and automation tools.
Participants called for continued collaboration to scale up digital transformation while safeguarding public trust.
