Boosting bilateral travel and tourism cooperation
Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau hosted an exclusive media networking session in Dhaka on Sunday, aiming to deepen tourism collaboration between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The event took place at the ‘Kuakata’ Hall of Le Méridien Dhaka and brought together tourism stakeholders, media professionals and industry leaders from both countries.
The session was presided over by Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dharmapala Weerakkody, with Buddhika Hewawasam and Mohammad Rafuzzaman attending as special guests.
Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Weerakkody highlighted the strong potential for expanding tourism cooperation, describing the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties in the sector.
A detailed destination presentation showcased Sri Lanka’s diverse attractions, including luxury travel options, family-friendly packages and improved air connectivity and accommodation facilities for Bangladeshi travellers.
Buddhika Hewawasam said Sri Lanka is increasingly recognised as a safe and attractive global destination, adding that affordable travel packages and enhanced services are being introduced to attract more visitors from Bangladesh.
Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) President Mohammad Rafuzzaman welcomed the initiative, noting that it would foster stronger professional ties and future collaboration.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion where participants explored tourism prospects, airline connectivity and traveller opportunity.
An exclusive B2B roadshow and networking evening is scheduled for April 6 at the same venue, bringing together industry partners for further engagement.
