U.S. Ambassador Highlights American Engineering in Bangladesh Railway
DHAKA, September 1, 2026: U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen visited Bangladesh Railway’s Central Locomotive Workshop in Parbatipur, highlighting the role of American engineering and technology in supporting the country’s railway connectivity and infrastructure.
According to U.S. Embassy Dhaka Spokesperson Poornima Rai, Ambassador Christensen visited the workshop where Bangladeshi technicians maintain American-made locomotives used for passenger and freight transportation across the country.
During his visit, Christensen toured the facility, viewed a locomotive manufactured by U.S.-based Progress Rail and met Bangladeshi railway professionals responsible for maintaining the locomotives.
The ambassador later traveled by train to Saidpur, where he interacted with passengers and visited the historic Saidpur Railway Workshop and Museum.
Bangladesh Railway’s purchase of 40 Progress Rail locomotives demonstrates how U.S. exports and technology can contribute to Bangladesh’s infrastructure and development priorities, the embassy said.
The visit also highlighted the practical and long-term value of expanding trade and commercial cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.
The U.S. Embassy said American engineering and technology continue to provide practical support for Bangladesh’s transportation infrastructure, while greater commercial engagement could create further opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation.
The ambassador’s visit to railway facilities in northern Bangladesh underscored the connection between international trade, technology transfer and infrastructure development.
