Bangla QR rollout advances Bangladesh's digital payment ecosystem.

The first meeting of the newly formed steering committee for the nationwide implementation of Bangla QR was held on Monday, marking a significant step toward accelerating Bangladesh's transition to a digital economy.

The meeting, chaired by Bangladesh Bank Governor and steering committee convener Md. Mostaqur Rahman, focused on reducing dependence on cash transactions, enhancing financial transparency and expanding digital payment services to people at the grassroots level, said a press release today.

During the meeting, the committee outlined its strategic vision for establishing a modern digital payment ecosystem aimed at gradually shifting the economy from cash-based transactions to a more efficient and transparent digital framework.

Members emphasized the importance of financial inclusion, ensuring that people across the country can access digital payment services and benefit from improved transaction security and transparency.

Representatives from various government ministries, who serve as members of the committee, attended the meeting alongside senior officials from commercial banks and Mobile Financial Service (MFS) providers.

Discussions centered on the technical and operational aspects of implementing the unified Bangla QR system nationwide.

Addressing the meeting, the Governor directed all ministries to adopt Bangla QR for the collection of government fees and charges.

He said integrating the platform into public services would play a crucial role in popularizing digital payments and encouraging wider public adoption.

The ministry representatives, commercial banks and MFS providers expressed their full support for the initiative and pledged to work in close coordination to ensure the successful implementation of Bangla QR across the country.
