Bangladesh seeks extradition response from UAE, India soon.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said Bangladesh is expecting a prompt response from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India regarding the extradition of former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and three suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi.

"We have done everything required under the law to secure the extradition of former IGP Benazir Ahmed from the UAE and the three suspects in the Hadi murder case from India. We hope to receive a response from both governments soon," he said.

The minister made the remarks today while briefing newsmen on the current issues at the Home Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat here.

Salahuddin said Benazir Ahmed was arrested in the UAE following an Interpol Red Notice.

At the request of the UAE authorities, Bangladesh submitted all necessary extradition documents within three days, despite being given a 30-day deadline, he said.

Regarding the three suspects, including the prime accused Faisal Karim Masud, the home minister said Bangladesh has also forwarded all necessary documents to the Indian authorities seeking their extradition.

He noted that the three suspects are currently facing trial in India on charges of illegal border infiltration, which could delay the extradition process.

However, he said under the extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India, they may still be handed over to Bangladesh even while the Indian legal proceedings are ongoing.
