BSEC consults stakeholders on mutual fund rule amendments
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has consulted stakeholders on possible amendments to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (Mutual Fund) Rules, 2025, aiming to promote the mutual fund sector, protect investors' interests and make the regulatory framework more effective and market-friendly.
The consultation meeting was held at the BSEC office on Wednesday, with BSEC Chairman Masud Khan in the chair, according to a press release issued by the commission today.
BSEC commissioners and officials concerned, representatives of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) and Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL), as well as trustees, asset management companies and custodians of various registered mutual funds, attended the meeting.
At the meeting, BSEC Executive Director and head of its Investment Management Division, Md Mahmud Haque, made a presentation titled "Review of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (Mutual Fund) Rules, 2025".
The presentation outlined various aspects of the existing rules and identified areas where amendments and changes could be considered.
Stakeholders subsequently shared their opinions, suggestions and recommendations on different provisions of the rules.
The discussions focused on developing the mutual fund sector, safeguarding investors' interests and making the regulatory framework more practical and effective.
Speaking at the meeting, BSEC Chairman Masud Khan said stakeholders' opinions were highly important to the commission.
He said the commission would review the rules and consider necessary amendments in line with international best practices and the views of relevant stakeholders. No emotional or irrational decisions would be taken in this regard, he added.
The BSEC chairman stressed the need to increase institutional investors' participation to make the country's capital market more dynamic, sustainable and investment-friendly.
He said the desired development of the capital market would not be possible by relying solely on retail investors.
Masud Khan also emphasised investment education and financial literacy, urging all concerned to work together to enhance investors' financial knowledge, awareness and ability to make informed investment decisions.
