Minister urges long-term plans for climate-related water challenges.
Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today said challenges such as floods, river erosion, waterlogging, salinity and drought are increasing day by day due to climate change.
"Integrated and long-term plans are essential to address these challenges," he said while addressing a meeting with World Bank Bangladesh Mission Chief Jean Pesme held at the conference room of the Ministry of Water Resources at secretariat here.
Senior officials of the ministry and the World Bank were present, said a press release here.
Anee said the government has undertaken various initiatives, including excavation and re-excavation of the country's rivers, canals and water bodies, as well as measures to reduce the damage caused by river erosion and floods.
He called for further strengthening the World Bank's partnership to ensure sustainable management of water resources.
Jean Pesme expressed the World Bank's commitment to continuing its support for the development of Bangladesh's water resources and enhancing climate resilience.
He emphasized integrated planning for water resources, the use of modern technology, strengthening institutional capacity and sustainable development.
The meeting also discussed the progress of ongoing projects in the water resources sector, areas of future cooperation and various issues of mutual interest.
