Rizvi accuses critics of spreading misinformation about social protection schemes

BNP Acting Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said that attempts are being made to mislead people by spreading false information about the government's social protection initiatives.

“The current government is a people-friendly government.  False information is being spread over the family card, farmer card, expatriate card, and health card.”

Rizvi made the remarks as the chief guest at a protest rally organized in front of the National Press Club today by the Nationalist Textile Engineers Association of Bangladesh (JETEB).

JETEB President Fakhrul Alam presided over the event.

Rizvi said people cannot be misled by spreading false propaganda about various social protection initiatives. People will not believe such propaganda, he said adding criticism of any initiative must be fact-based and justified.

Referring to the farmer card, he said through this, arrangements have been made to deliver at least Tk 2,500 per month to the marginal, poor, and landless farmers of the country.

Alongside, record amounts of agricultural loans and the highest amount of microcredit have been disbursed compared to any previous year to increase agricultural production, he added.

The BNP Acting Secretary General said that the policy of a people-friendly government is to take all steps considering the sorrows and sufferings of the people.

It is not just about making promises; one must fulfill responsibilities by standing beside people in their joys and sorrows, he said.

He further said that during Sheikh Hasina's rule, Bangladesh's electoral system was destroyed through corruption, irregularities and controlled elections.

At that time, people's voting rights and right to speak were taken away, he added.

Rizvi also commented that Sheikh Hasina had influenced various institutions, including the courts and administration, by appointing her close associates.
