Minister urges value-for-money, global benchmarking in public projects.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said every government-funded investment project must prioritise value for money, return on investment, job creation and environmental impact.
“It is not enough to assess only our own work; we must also identify our weaknesses and rectify them by evaluating the work of others... It is not enough to perform well; we must also ensure that our achievements are recognised globally,” he said.
He emphasised that to elevate a university to a world-class standard, it is essential to regularly benchmark its performance against the best institutions globally. He also highlighted the importance of peer reviews of the university's research, management and activities.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the 24th University Day programme of the Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) this afternoon.
The event was presided over by CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem, while Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, MP, addressed the programme as the special guest.
Regarding CUET's IT incubator, Amir Khasru said effective management requires coordination among the relevant ministries, the University Grants Commission and the university authorities.
