Government intensifies cleanup drive for cleaner, greener Bangladesh.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today said the government wants to transform Bangladesh into a clean and liveable country and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working tirelessly to achieve this goal.
"The two sides of the highway from Aminbazar to Hemayetpur had long remained littered with waste and marred by poor maintenance. After the matter came to the attention of the Prime Minister, it was decided, at his directive, to undertake waste removal, environmental cleanup and the plantation of Neem saplings along both sides of the highway over a stretch of approximately 1.2 kilometres, in coordination with the Dhaka district administration," he said,
The state minister said this while talking to newsmen after inspecting the ongoing waste removal, cleanliness and tree plantation programme along both sides of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway at Aminbazar in Savar.
Mir Shahe Alam at the time said as a result of the ongoing work, this section of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway is expected to be free from foul odour for the first time in nearly 20 years. The state minister also said that repair works on roads damaged by the recent rains would begin promptly as soon as the floodwaters recede.
He urged all to must refrain from indiscriminately dumping waste to help ensure a clean and healthy environment.
Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanom, who was also present on the occasion, said the district administration is attaching the highest priority to implementing the prime minister's far-reaching initiative to build a clean and green Dhaka.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md Abdur Rafiul Alam, Savar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Saiful Islam, Keraniganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Omar Faruk, Assistant Commissioner (Nazarat Branch) Md Adnan Zulfikar, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Engineer of Savar Upazila Md Minarul Islam, and other concerned officials were present during the inspection.
