India wants to strengthen people-to-people ties and relationships with Bangladesh, emphasizing the importance of mutual trust and mutual benefit in advancing bilateral relations.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shri Dinesh Trivedi made the call during a meeting with Md. Ismail Zabihullah, Adviser to the Prime Minister for the Ministry of Public Administration, at the latter's office in the capital on Monday.

According to a post by the High Commission of India on its official Facebook page, during the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues concerning India-Bangladesh relations.

They underscored the importance of people-to-people relations as the foundation of the bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries.

The discussions also reflected optimism that India and Bangladesh, as two sovereign nations, would continue to work together with a forward-looking approach, according to the High Commission.

The two sides emphasised the importance of mutual trust and mutual benefit in advancing bilateral relations.

The meeting comes amid continued engagement between Dhaka and New Delhi on a range of bilateral issues. People-to-people contacts, cooperation and mutual understanding have traditionally remained important elements of relations between the two countries.

Monday's meeting also highlighted the importance of maintaining a constructive outlook as Bangladesh and India seek to further strengthen their relationship.

The two sides stressed trust and mutual benefit as the way forward.
