International Literacy Day observed in Bera
International Literacy Day was observed in Bera, Pabna, on Tuesday with a colourful rally and discussion meeting.
The Upazila Administration and the Upazila Non-Formal Education Bureau jointly organised the programme at 10:00am under the theme, “Literacy for People, Planet, and Prosperity.”
Bera Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Runalt Chakma attended the programme as the chief guest, while Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nuren Mayisha Khan and Upazila Primary Education Officer Md Saiful Islam were present as special guests.
Officials from various government departments, educators, media representatives and civil society members also attended the event. Among them were Public Health Engineering Officer Md Monowar Hossain, Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Mosharraf Hossain, ICT Officer Aporbo Kumar Saha, Cooperative Officer Md Mijanur Rahman, LGED Officer Md Saidur Rahman, Election Officer Abdur Rahim and Alhera Academy Principal Md Hakimul Kabir.
The programme began with a colourful rally from the Upazila Parishad premises. The rally passed through the main roads of Bera before returning to the starting point.
A discussion meeting was held afterwards, where speakers highlighted the importance of literacy in building an educated, aware and sustainable society.
They said eradicating illiteracy requires concerted efforts from people across all sections of society. Literacy, they noted, plays a vital role in ensuring human development while contributing to the prosperity of both people and the planet.
