IU in Kushtia to be developed as centre of excellence: Education Minister
Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon spoke at a program organized by the Islamic Arabic University at the International Mother Language Institute on Tuesday.
Minister vows excellence for Islamic University, Kushtia.

Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said the Islamic University in Kushtia would be developed as a centre of excellence.

He made the remarks while addressing the "Best Institutions and Outstanding Students Award Ceremony 2026," organised by the Islamic Arabic University at the International Mother Language Institute here as the chief guest.

The minister said the government wants the Islamic University in Kushtia to emerge as an internationally renowned institution and is working towards that goal.

"We will develop the Islamic University in Kushtia as a centre of excellence," he said.

He also said the government attaches greater importance to Islamic education as it imparts moral and ethical values, which constitute true education.

However, he said, due to a shortage of qualified teachers, many educational institutions are unable to recruit teachers for Islamic Studies, he added.

Therefore, the syllabus and curriculum should be designed in such a way as to ensure an adequate supply of teachers in the subject, he said.

The minister instructed the authorities of the Islamic Arabic University to take necessary initiatives in this regard.

He said a nation moves towards destruction if its people are devoid of morality.

"It is not more important which university a government official graduated from. Rather, what is more important is how many honest officials we have. Therefore, Islamic education must be expanded to improve the moral standards of the people," he added.

Presided over by Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic Arabic University Professor Dr Abu Jafar Khan, the programme was attended, among others, by Education Secretary Abdul Khaleque and Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel as special guests.

At the function, awards were presented to 100 best institutions and 147 Fazil and Kamil level students who obtained GPA-5 (A+) in 2023 and 2024.
