Military Engineer Services praises Walton’s manufacturing capacity, R&D and export potential, signalling preference for locally made products where available.
The Military Engineer Services (MES) has expressed interest in prioritising locally manufactured products for its requirements, praising Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC for its manufacturing capacity, technological capabilities and research and development activities.
A high-level MES delegation, led by Engineer-in-Chief Major General Hasan Uz Zaman, made the remarks during a recent visit to Walton’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Chandra, Gazipur, according to a company press release.
“If the required products are available locally, we would first consider locally manufactured products. In this regard, Walton is one of the companies that naturally comes to our consideration,” Major General Hasan Uz Zaman said.
He praised Walton’s manufacturing scale, product diversity and research capabilities, expressing hope that the company would further expand its technological innovation.
The delegation included Brigadier General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Sayem, director of works at MES, and other senior officials. They were received by S M Mahbubul Alam, managing director of Walton Hi-Tech Industries.
During the visit, the delegation inspected Walton’s display centre, production plants and research and innovation facilities. They observed manufacturing processes for a range of electrical, electronic and technology products, including lifts, air conditioners, refrigerators, solar panels, batteries, cables and compressors.
Major General Hasan Uz Zaman said Walton’s contribution to industrialisation, employment generation, local manufacturing, technological development and the national economy deserved recognition.
Brigadier General Sayem also praised the company’s manufacturing capacity, saying it was a matter of pride that Bangladesh had developed large-scale industrial facilities producing goods for international markets.
He noted that Walton was moving beyond a focus on the domestic market by designing and manufacturing products with international market requirements in mind.
Sayem also commended the company’s approach to environmental sustainability, saying its efforts reflected consideration for future generations.
Speaking at the event, Walton Managing Director S M Mahbubul Alam said the company valued long-term cooperation with key national institutions based on its technological and manufacturing capabilities.
He said the MES delegation’s observations and recommendations would encourage Walton to further strengthen domestic technology-product manufacturing, research and development.
“Walton’s objective is to reduce import dependency, save foreign currency, expand exports and contribute more significantly to the national economy and employment generation by manufacturing international-standard technology products in Bangladesh,” Mahbubul Alam said.
He added that the company was continuing to strengthen its research, innovation and technological capabilities while maintaining product quality and after-sales service.
Tanvir Anjum, business coordinator to Walton’s managing director and a senior executive director of the company, hosted the programme. He expressed hope that the existing relationship between Walton and MES would lead to broader cooperation in the future.
Other Walton officials attending the visit included Additional Managing Director Mohammad Yusuf Ali, Chief Business Officer of Walton AC Md Tanvir Rahman, Head of Corporate Sales Ahmad Tanvir, Senior Executive Director Protic Kumar Modak, Chief Business Officer of Walton Lift Md Mahmudur Rahman, and Head of Administration Tanvir Ahmad.
The visit comes amid growing emphasis on domestic manufacturing as a means of reducing import dependence, conserving foreign currency and strengthening Bangladesh’s industrial capabilities. However, the press release did not specify any procurement commitment, contract or purchase agreement between MES and Walton.
