Google urged to help modernize Bangladesh’s education system with AI.

Emphasising the use of information technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to build a world-class education system, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today sought Google’s cooperation in modernising the country’s education system, enhancing teachers’ skills and developing educational contents.

He sought the cooperation when a high-level delegation led by Kyle Gardner, Regional Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google, paid a courtesy call on him at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat here, said a press release.

During the meeting, the education minister said, “The current government has given the highest priority to education. We are working to bring about a fundamental transformation in our education system in line with global demand. There is an opportunity for Google to cooperate in this regard.”

He further said that to ensure the effective use of technology and AI in the education system, it is essential to make the teachers equipped with skills in these areas as well.

For this purpose, Milon said, the government has undertaken various modern initiatives, including ‘One Teacher, One Tab’ and multimedia classrooms, where Google can play a major role.

The Google delegation highly appreciated various initiatives taken by the Bangladesh government to expand education and adopt technology-friendly policies as they were briefed on the government’s strategic priorities and future plans in the education sector.

The delegation highlighted the overall activities and global experience of ‘Google for Education’.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on how joint efforts could be undertaken in Bangladesh’s education sector in the future through teacher training, the Gemini Academy and the use of Chromebooks.

Head of Special Projects for the Asia-Pacific region of Google for Education Tim Paolini and Additional Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division of the Ministry of Education Shamshur Rahman Khan were present at the meeting.
