Prime Minister stopped motorcade to allow ambulance passage.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today stopped his motorcade on the elevated expressway at Karwan Bazar end in the city to make way for an ambulance.
"The Prime Minister was on his way to his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat from his Gulshan residence this morning. A little before 9:00 am, the Prime Minister's motorcade was moving from the Banani Expressway toward the FDC intersection at Karwan Bazar," said Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.
"Suddenly, the Prime Minister noticed that an ambulance was blaring siren and trying to pass his motorcade. Understanding the situation, the Prime Minister instructed the security officials in the convoy to give side to the ambulance. Upon receiving the instruction, the officials made way for the ambulance," he added.
Describing the incident as a rare example, Ruman said, "By making way for an ambulance carrying a critically ill patient, the Prime Minister set another example (of generosity)".
Suman Ahmed, a passenger in a private car near Karwan Bazar, said that he was behind the Prime Minister's motorcade at that time.
He saw that suddenly all the vehicles stopped. Officials assigned to VVIP security were allowing the ambulance to move ahead from the side of the convoy. Seeing such a scene, Suman said his heart filled with joy.
He said in this country, no head of government or head of state was seen doing this before.
Such sense of responsibility and compassion by Tarique Rahman is giving a didactic message for everyone, Suman added.
