Rizvi accuses Jamaat of double standards over Islamic and political pledges.
BNP acting Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today criticised Jamaat-e-Islami for maintaining double standards saying the party makes promises in the name of Islam and Allah to get political advantage but acts contrary to those pledges.
“You (Jammat) love to follow the path of Hasina’s fascism the most. Sometimes you try to form an alliance with the BNP for the sake of power. But in reality, you follow the very path shown by Hasina,” he sad.
Rizvi, also prime minister's political adviser, was addressing doa mahfil marking the 25th death anniversary of former BNP vice-chairman Advocate Afsar Ahmad Siddiqui at the Jatiya Press Club here.
In response to Jamaat chief’s comment that BNP is following the path of fascism, Rizvi said only BNP has the strength to resist fascism and it’s the only party which never deviates even slightly from the promises it makes.
Though a numerous number of leaders and workers of the party had to endure killings, enforced disappearances, false cases, imprisonment and inhumane repression, it never moves away from its democratic ideology, he said.
“But we do not know whether you (Jamaat) have that conviction” as Jamaat had never established a clear ideological position on democracy or the country’s independence, that’s why people still view the party with suspicion, he said.
Paying tributes to memories of Afsar Ahmad Siddiqui, the BNP secretary general said he had been a distinguished politician, selfless leader and classic political figure from his student life until his death.
Such classic figures are no longer seen in politics today, he said adding that he learnt a lot from working with him and those lessons helped him in his life later on, he said.
BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarfat Ali Sapu and Chhatra Dal Vice-President Touhidur Rahman Awal also addressed the memorial meeting as Afsar Ahmad Smriti Foundation Convener Jahanara Siddiqui chaired it.
