Patriots of Bangladesh condemns alleged assault on Muslim journalists

International Human Rights Association Patriots of Bangladesh has strongly condemned the alleged physical assault of two Muslim female journalists by Indian police and called for an impartial investigation into the incident on Tuesday.

In a statement, the organisation alleged that the two journalists were detained by police after they questioned Delhi Chief Minister and India's Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the government's alleged involvement in a scandal.

According to the organisation, the journalists were subsequently subjected to physical assault while in police custody. It further alleged that the journalists faced more severe treatment after police identified them as Muslim journalists.

Patriots of Bangladesh condemned the alleged incident and demanded a thorough investigation, along with exemplary punishment for any police personnel found responsible.

The organisation also urged the Indian government to ensure freedom of expression and freedom of the press, as well as the safety and security of journalists and media workers regardless of their religious identity.

“Attacks, intimidation or discriminatory treatment based on religious identity against journalists cannot be acceptable in any democratic society,” the statement said.

The organisation called on the authorities to uphold journalists' rights and ensure that members of the media can perform their professional duties without fear of harassment, violence or discrimination.
