Gigabyte brings AI TOP Atom to Bangladesh for large-scale AI, scientific research
Gigabyte has introduced its AI TOP Atom high-performance computing system in Bangladesh, targeting researchers and organisations working with large artificial intelligence models, massive datasets and computationally intensive scientific simulations.
Unlike conventional desktop computers, the AI TOP Atom is designed as a dedicated computing platform for running AI models and other demanding workloads locally.
According to Gigabyte, each AI TOP Atom node delivers up to 1 PFLOPS of FP4 AI performance and comes with 128GB of unified memory. Up to four nodes can be connected through 200GbE networking, allowing users to build a larger computing cluster for memory-intensive applications.
Gigabyte and NVIDIA have demonstrated the system's potential through a scientific research application using GROMACS, a software package widely used for molecular dynamics simulations.
In the demonstration, AI was used to generate potential research concepts, which were then tested through scientific simulations. One example involved the development of thermal interface materials (TIM) for advanced semiconductor packaging, where researchers can simulate the behaviour of molecules and materials.
Gigabyte said a conventional standalone system can face memory constraints when simulations reach around 10 million atoms. In the demonstration, a four-node AI TOP Atom cluster was able to simulate more than 30 million atoms.
The company said the system could support research in areas including semiconductor development, materials science, AI and other fields requiring high-performance computing.
Another feature is local processing, which allows organisations to keep data and research workloads within their own computing environment rather than relying entirely on cloud-based infrastructure. This can be particularly relevant for research involving sensitive or proprietary datasets.
Khwaja Md Anas Khan, country manager of Gigabyte in Bangladesh, said three variants of the AI TOP Atom—9000, 9001 and 9002—are available in the local market.
Prices vary by configuration, with the highest-end variant costing around Tk 10 lakh, he said.
Khan said the system is expected to be used not only for AI development but also for large-scale scientific research and simulations in Bangladesh.
The introduction comes as demand grows for locally accessible computing infrastructure capable of handling increasingly large AI models and data-intensive research workloads.
