DCCI delegation heads to Malaysia to boost trade, investment

A 39-member business delegation of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), led by its President Taskeen Ahmed, will visit Malaysia from September 22 to 25 to explore opportunities for expanding bilateral trade, exports and investment.

The delegation will hold business meetings with Malaysian trade and industry bodies, with a particular focus on attracting Malaysian investment to Bangladesh and increasing exports of Bangladeshi products with potential in the Malaysian market.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia will provide support and cooperation to the delegation throughout the visit.

The delegation will participate in business-to-business (B2B) meetings with the Klang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry on September 23, the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers on September 24 and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia on September 25.

The meetings are expected to provide Bangladeshi businesses with opportunities to establish commercial contacts and explore avenues for expanding bilateral trade and investment.

The delegation will also attend the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) in Kuala Lumpur on September 24, one of the major international platforms for the global halal industry.

Participation in the event will allow Bangladeshi businesses to engage with international companies and explore opportunities in the growing halal market.

During the visit, DCCI leaders will also pay courtesy calls on Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing and Deputy Minister of Finance Liew Chin Tong.

Bangladesh-Malaysia trade remains heavily tilted in Malaysia's favour. Bilateral trade stood at around $2.57 billion in fiscal year 2024-25, with Bangladesh importing goods worth $2.293 billion and exporting $282 million.

Malaysian businesses have invested $755.48 million in Bangladesh, mainly in sectors such as telecommunications, power, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, construction and textiles.

Meanwhile, Bangladeshi nationals account for 37 percent of foreign workers employed in Malaysia. They remitted $3.40 billion to Bangladesh during fiscal year 2025-26, according to the supplied data.

The DCCI delegation is scheduled to return to Dhaka on September 25.
