Gas supply to normalize soon after technical fault: minister
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit today said the gas supply will be normalized soon as the government has been working to resolve a temporary disruption in the national gas grid caused by a technical fault.
"Gas supply would return to normal soon and pressure at power plants, industries, households and CNG filling stations would gradually improve," he said.
The state minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a view-sharing meeting titled "Prevention of Rumors and Misinformation through Social Media" at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room in Jashore on Saturday afternoon.
Explaining the current gas supply situation, he said imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) is converted into gas through the country's two Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) before being supplied to the national grid.
He said the gas is essential for operating power plants and industries as well as meeting household cooking needs, particularly in the capital.
The state minister said technical problems had occurred at one FSRU and that a private company and Petrobangla were working together to repair it. The energy department was monitoring the situation around the clock, he added.
Speaking at the event, the state minister emphasized the importance of moral education to curb the spread of rumors and misinformation on social media.
The state minister called for restoring those values through both formal education and broader social awareness.
He also urged teachers to play a greater role in building moral values among students alongside academic education, adding: "Responsible members of society would also help to raise public awareness."
Jashore district administration organised the discussion with DC Mohammad Ashek Hasan in the chair.
Among others, Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam, Jashore district BNP President Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, its General Secretary and Administrator of the District Council Delwar Hossain Khokon, National Security Intelligence (NSI) Joint Director Abu Taher Md Parvez, Additional Deputy Commissioner Khan Masum Billah, Police Cyber Crime Unit Sub-Inspector Alok Kumar Dey, Jashore Imam Parishad President Maulana Abdul Mannan, Jashore Puja Udjapan Parishad President Dipankar Das Ratan, and spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Saeed Khan also spoke at the meeting.
