Government announces major infrastructure and development projects for Bogura.

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today announced a set of development initiatives for Bogura district, including the establishment of a university, an international airport, a football stadium and new rail connectivity.

Speaking as the chief guest at a meet-the-press programme at Bogura Press Club, the state minister said the government plans to develop Bogura as a modern regional hub through expanded education, transport and infrastructure facilities.

He said the Prime Minister has expressed interest in setting up a modern university in a natural setting outside the city. 

"The proposed Bogura University will include faculties of agriculture, engineering, medicine, science and general education," he said, adding that a proposal in this regard will be placed before the Cabinet Division next week.

The state minister also outlined plans for a multi-purpose international airport in Bogura, which would include a pilot training centre, internationally standard educational institutions, cargo handling facilities, and infrastructure capable of supporting fighter aircraft operations and an airbase.

He further announced that an international-standard football stadium will be constructed in the district.

Mir Shahe Alam said steps have also been taken to establish both the Bogura Development Authority and Bogura WASA to strengthen local governance and urban services.

On transport infrastructure, he said the proposed Sirajganj-Bogura railway project, estimated at around Tk 12,500 crore, is expected to be placed before the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) next week for approval.

He also mentioned plans for a metro rail-style train service connecting Ranirhat, Bogura town and Gabtali, aimed at improving urban mobility.

In addition, he said a four-lane bypass road in Gabtali is planned, along with upgrades of the Bogura-Naogaon and Mokamtala-Joypurhat highways into six-lane corridors.

The state minister added that Tk 25 crore has been allocated for the development of the Bogura Baitur Rahman Central Mosque.

He also announced a Tk 1 crore grant from the Prime Minister for the development of Bogura Press Club.

Bogura Press Club President Rezaul Hasan Ranu chaired the programme, while General Secretary Kalam Azad conducted it. Bogura City Corporation Administrator M R Islam Swadhin attended as a special guest.
