PM Tarique inquires about Rafiqul Islam Mia's health.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inquired about the health condition of senior BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital.
On behalf of the premier, his assistant personal physician Dr. A N M Monowarul Kadir (Bitu) visited Rafiqul Islam Mia at Evercare Hospital.
"I spoke with the physicians responsible for his treatment and received a detailed update on his overall medical progress. I also conveyed the Prime Minister's message wishing him a speedy and complete recovery," said Kadir.
He said the premier has expressed deep concern over the illness of a senior politician, former minister, and a personality who has made significant contributions to the nation.
Following his instructions, necessary discussions have been held with the attending physicians to ensure the highest standard of medical care, he said.
A few days ago, Rafiqul Islam Mia suddenly fell ill and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital. He is now receiving treatment at a cabin under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ziaul Haque at the hospital.
Since 2018, Rafiqul Islam Mia has been seriously ill and bedridden for a prolonged period. The former minister suffers from multiple health complications, including a fractured spine.
His wife, Professor Shahida Rafiq, a teacher at the University of Dhaka, was a member of the Advisory Council to the BNP Chairperson. She passed away on March 2 last year.
During the military-backed caretaker government that assumed power following the 1/11 political changeover, when former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was arrested in September 2007 on false charges of corruption, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia courageously took part in the legal battle as one of her lawyers.
