Together for Recovery: Reaching 5,700 flood affected families

[Dhaka, 7th September 2026]: Weeks after the floods and landslides swept through parts of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Khagrachari, many families are still facing the difficult reality of rebuilding their lives. For those who lost crops, income and access to basic necessities, securing enough food for their families remains a daily challenge.

In response, Kazuko Bhuiyan Welfare Trust had initiated an emergency aid assistance programme that reached 5,700 flood- and landslide-affected families, benefiting an estimated 28,500 people across some of the hardest-hit communities in the region.

The initiative was implemented by Multi Serve International (MSI) with support from JT International Bangladesh Limited.

The programme targeted vulnerable households in several regions including Banshkhali of Chattogram, Pekua of Cox’s Bazar and Dighinala of Khagrachari, where many families continue to face challenges due to damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods and limited access to essential resources. Priority was given to female-headed households, elderly people, persons with disabilities and displaced residents.

Each family received a package of essential food items, including rice, lentils, soybean oil, potatoes and salt, helping meet immediate nutritional needs during the recovery period.

Distribution was continued in close collaboration with local authorities, community leaders and volunteers to ensure timely delivery of assistance across the three districts.

The initiative highlights the importance of coordinated humanitarian action in supporting communities long after a disaster left the headlines.

The events were also attended by chief guests, Mr. Wadud Bhuiyan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Khagrachari-298, in Khagrachari; Mr. Israfil Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Director & Chairman (Finance Committee), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), in Chattogram; and Mr. Safwanul Karim, Press Secretary to the Hon’ble Home Minister and Member of Parliament for Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua), in Cox’s Bazar. Representatives including Mr. Masudur Rahman, Manager from Kazuko Bhuiyan Welfare Trust, Mr. Gintautas Dirgela, Corporate Affairs & Communications Director, JTIB and Md. Zubair, General Secretary, CEO of MSI joined local government officials, community leaders and volunteers during distribution activities., reflecting a shared commitment to standing alongside affected communities as they rebuild their lives.
