Bobby Hajjaj stresses expanding AI-based learning in primary education.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today stressed the need for expanding technology-based learning systems to broaden the learning opportunities for primary school students.
"Digital technology, particularly the effective use of artificial intelligence (AI)-based learning tools, can play a significant role in developing students' language skills and foundational competencies," he said.
The state minister made the remarks at a meeting with UNICEF Global Director of Education and Adolescent Development Pia Rebello Britto at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Friday.
The meeting discussed measures to improve students' English language proficiency, promote inclusive education, modernise the primary education system in Bangladesh, expand education technology (EdTech) and strengthen connectivity with global technology institutions, including Google.
They also exchanged views on using technology effectively to improve students' learning outcomes and enhance the capacities of teachers and education administrators.
The meeting placed emphasis on developing a more inclusive, equitable and accessible education system for children with disabilities.
They discussed strengthening international cooperation to ensure that no child is deprived of quality primary education because of physical or other barriers.
UNICEF assured Bangladesh of full support in promoting inclusive education for children with disabilities, expanding EdTech and digital technology, improving students' English proficiency and strengthening connectivity between the education sector and international technology institutions, including Google.
Pia Rebello Britto also assured that UNICEF would work closely with Bangladesh's initiatives in these areas and provide necessary technical support while facilitating international cooperation.
Later, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the state minister participated in a high-level roundtable titled "Skills for Brighter Futures: Investing in Human Capital for Youth on the Move" at UNICEF House in UN Plaza.
The meeting emphasised skills development, investment in education and training, human resource capacity building and creating future-oriented opportunities for young people to equip them for changing job markets.
As youth skills development lays the foundation for a country's future economic strength, Bobby Hajjaj said Bangladesh wants to work closely with international stakeholders to prepare every child with the knowledge and skills needed for the future job market from the primary education level.
