Nine more Bangladeshi students head to Pakistan for higher studies under Iqbal scholarships
DHAKA, Sept 26: Nine Bangladeshi students departed for Pakistan on Saturday under the second phase of the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships Programme, according to the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka.
The fourth batch of students left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to pursue higher studies in Pakistan under the scholarship initiative.
Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner Muhammad Wasif was present at the airport to see off the students, the High Commission said in a post on its official Facebook page.
The departure is part of the Pakistan-Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor, an initiative aimed at expanding cooperation between the two countries in higher education, research and academic exchange.
Under the programme, Pakistan is offering fully funded scholarships to Bangladeshi students, covering areas including undergraduate and graduate-level studies. The scholarships include tuition fees, living stipends, book allowances and international travel, according to Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Pakistan has announced 500 Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships for Bangladeshi students under the Knowledge Corridor. HEC said 74 Bangladeshi students were already studying at Pakistani universities as of June this year.
The latest departure follows earlier batches of Bangladeshi scholarship recipients travelling to Pakistan under the second phase of the programme.
The initiative is part of recent efforts by Bangladesh and Pakistan to expand people-to-people and educational ties through increased academic exchanges.
