Government reforms education, pledges globally competitive learning system.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said the government is working to reform Bangladesh's education system and bring it in line with global standards, aiming to equip students with quality education and the skills needed to compete internationally.

"The fascist Awami League government had destroyed the education system by introducing practices such as auto-promotion and widespread opportunities for cheating," he said.

He was speaking to journalists about the current issues at the Home Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat here today.

"The education system was severely damaged. We are working to rebuild and improve it, though the process will take time," he said.

The minister said the government has placed the highest priority on modernizing the education sector by ensuring students receive quality, technology-based education and practical knowledge to enhance their competitiveness in the global arena.

Commenting on the recent student protests, Salahuddin said misinformation had been circulated through social media, contributing to confusion over the events.

He said that some people are trying to "fish in troubled waters" by taking advantage of the students' movement.

About uncertainty in holding the local government elections this year, the Home Minister said they are prepared to hold the polls.

"We have no doubt about holding the local government elections. We're prepared to hold the local election."
