Parliamentary committee recommends more primary schools, filling headteacher vacancies
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education today recommended increasing the number of primary schools to ensure the enrolment of all children across the country.
At its first meeting of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS), the committee also recommended filling all vacant posts of head teachers at government primary schools as soon as possible.
The meeting was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Committee Chairman Mahmuda Habiba in the chair.
The committee further recommended making moral education compulsory at the primary level.
Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan, State Minister Bobby Hajjaj, and committee members Lutfur Rahman Khan Azad, Md Abdus Salam, Md Sadik Riaz, Md Elias Molla, Md Moktar Ali and Mahfuza Hannan attended the meeting, according to a press release issued this afternoon.
The meeting was briefed through a PowerPoint presentation on sector-wise allocations and expenditure plans, as well as budget and expenditure details for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027, of the Directorate of Primary Education, Bureau of Non-Formal Education, Child Welfare Trust, Primary Education Academy and Compulsory Primary Education Implementation Monitoring Unit.
Regarding the ongoing school feeding programme, the committee recommended ensuring the quality and nutritional value of food provided to children.
It also recommended taking punitive action against those responsible if the required standards are not maintained.
The JS body further recommended ensuring proper implementation of budget allocations under different sectors.
It also advised committee members to visit primary schools and inspect their activities on the ground while the schools are in operation.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass-Education, heads of different departments and agencies under the ministry, and concerned officials of the Parliament Secretariat were present.
