Pakistan envoy-designate explores business ties with Gelephu Mindful City

Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Bhutan Imran Haider explored potential avenues for collaboration between the Gelephu Mindful City (GMC) authority and Pakistani businesses during a joint briefing on the ambitious Bhutanese development initiative on Thursday.

Jonathan Tow, Chief of International Affairs, briefed Haider on the vision behind the GMC, describing it as a global initiative of Bhutan’s King aimed at offering an alternative model of development.

The initiative seeks to combine Bhutan’s traditional values of spirituality and harmony with nature with innovation, technology and economic vibrancy, according to the briefing.

The GMC is envisioned as a platform offering opportunities in personal wellbeing, investment and sustainable development.

During the interaction, Haider discussed possible areas of engagement between the GMC authority and businesses from Pakistan, according to the information shared.

The discussions come as Pakistan looks to explore new avenues for economic and business engagement with Bhutan.

The Gelephu Mindful City is being developed as a major long-term project centred on sustainable development, economic activity and Bhutanese cultural values.
