Philippines steps up digital safety campaign to protect Filipinos online

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has joined the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and its partners in promoting digital literacy and cyber hygiene as part of efforts to protect Filipinos from online threats.

The initiative, being promoted under the BSP's #BSPSecuriTips campaign, aims to encourage safer online financial transactions and greater awareness of available security measures.

The DFA urged Filipinos to follow the #CPR, or Check, Protect, Report, approach to help ensure safer digital transactions.

As part of the campaign, the BSP advised users to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on their bank and e-wallet accounts to strengthen protection against unauthorised access.

The central bank also encouraged users to activate security features available through their financial institution's mobile application, noting that the features may vary depending on the institution.

The campaign encourages users to check suspicious activity or information, protect their accounts by using available security features, and report suspected threats or unauthorised transactions.

The DFA said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote digital literacy and cyber hygiene among Filipinos and strengthen public awareness of online security.

The campaign is being promoted through the hashtags #BSPSecuriTips, #CPR and #CheckProtectReport.
