New diplomatic bridge through media exchange built

Dhaka, June 22, 2026: The Bangladeshi journalists’ community has extended a warm welcome to Shabid Ullah Wazir, the newly appointed Press Counsellor at the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka.

He takes over from Fasih Ullah Khan and officially assumed charge on June 17.

The newly appointed Press Counsellor, Shabid Ullah Wazir, arrived in Dhaka directly from the headquarters in Pakistan.

He welcomed in a ceremony was held at Pakistan House in Dhaka on Sunday evening (June 21, 2026).

Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider attended the event. Among others, Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner Mohammad Wasif, Political Counsellor Kamran Dhangal, noted journalist and former caretaker government press secretary Shafiqul Alam, as well as senior journalists from various media organisations in Bangladesh.

Members of the local journalist community expressed hope that his tenure would further strengthen professional engagement and cooperation between the Pakistan High Commission and Bangladeshi media organisations.

They also highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and constructive interaction in enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries.

Officials familiar with the transition said the change of assignment reflects the routine diplomatic rotation within the Pakistan Foreign Service.

The welcome reception marks an early engagement between the new Press Counsellor and the Bangladeshi media community, setting the tone for future collaboration in media relations and public diplomacy activities.
