DHAKA, August 13, 2026: Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on August 11 called on Bangladesh’s Minister of Water Resources Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne, with the two sides discussing ways to strengthen bilateral water cooperation and implement outcomes from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to China.

During the meeting, both sides highly commended the successful visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to China and held in-depth discussions on translating the outcomes of the visit into concrete initiatives, particularly in the water resources sector.

The meeting underscored the importance of advancing ongoing and proposed China-Bangladesh water cooperation projects, with both sides expressing interest in further strengthening collaboration in water resources management and related areas.

The discussions form part of broader efforts by Bangladesh and China to deepen bilateral cooperation following the Prime Minister’s visit, including through practical projects that can contribute to Bangladesh’s water management and development priorities.

State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad and Secretary to the Ministry of Water Resources Dr. A.K.M. Shahabuddin were also present at the meeting.

The engagement between Ambassador Yao Wen and Bangladesh’s Water Resources Ministry reflects the growing focus on translating high-level diplomatic commitments into sector-specific cooperation between the two countries.
