Chinese envoy Yao Wen bids farewell to Bangladesh state minister

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a farewell call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Sunday.

During the meeting, Kobir appreciated the ambassador’s role in strengthening Bangladesh-China relations and acknowledged his contribution to the successful visit of Prime Minister to China.

The state minister said Yao Wen’s tenure had received considerable visibility and noted that Bangladesh-China ties had been elevated to the level of a “Shared Community” during his diplomatic assignment.

He also highlighted several new bilateral mechanisms that are set to begin, including a state minister-level 2+2 mechanism, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Yao Wen said it had been a great honour to serve in Bangladesh for three years and nine months.

The ambassador congratulated Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on his election as president of the United Nations General Assembly, describing the development as a proud moment for Bangladesh.

Yao Wen reaffirmed China’s continued support for Bangladesh’s development journey.

He also said the minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) is keen to visit Bangladesh towards the end of this year.

The ambassador noted that the Chinese minister has strong ties with Bangladesh, as his father had previously served as China’s ambassador to Bangladesh and presented his credentials to then-President Ziaur Rahman.

Kobir expressed confidence that Bangladesh-China relations would continue to deepen in the coming days.

He thanked Yao Wen for his service and wished him success in his new assignment, adding that he hoped their paths would cross again.

The state minister also said Bangladesh was pleased to have had Yao Wen serve as China’s ambassador during his tenure.
