The meeting highlighted scope for deeper Nepal-Bangladesh cooperation on climate and conservation
Nepal and Bangladesh have discussed strengthening cooperation in wildlife protection, environmental conservation and climate change, with the two sides also exchanging condolences over the devastating flash floods that hit Nepal last month.
Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanashyam Bhandari called on Bangladesh’s Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo on Sunday afternoon, according to a post published on the Embassy of Nepal in Bangladesh’s official Facebook page.
During the meeting, Mintoo conveyed his condolences to Ambassador Bhandari over the loss of lives and property caused by the devastating flash floods in Nepal on August 26, the embassy said.
The meeting also covered various aspects of Nepal-Bangladesh relations, with particular emphasis on environmental issues, according to the embassy.
The discussions focused on wildlife protection, environmental conservation and climate change, highlighting areas where the two neighbouring South Asian countries can deepen cooperation.
Nepal and Bangladesh have traditionally maintained close bilateral ties, with cooperation extending across areas including trade, connectivity, energy, tourism and people-to-people relations.
The latest meeting comes as both countries face growing environmental and climate-related challenges, including extreme weather events and their impacts on communities and ecosystems.
The exchange between the Nepalese ambassador and the environment minister underscored the importance of regional cooperation in addressing shared environmental challenges and strengthening climate resilience.
