July Museum Releases Book ‘Bisarjan’ Honoring Sanatan Martyrs
Dhaka, October 19, 2026: On the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja, the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum has published a book titled ‘Bisarjan: Sanatan Martyrs of the July Mass Uprising’, highlighting the sacrifices of the Sanatan martyrs of the 2024 uprising. The book was released on Monday.
Following 16 years of misrule, the autocratic regime was ousted through the 2024 uprising at the cost of thousands of lives. Among them, nine individuals belonging to the Sanatan faith embraced martyrdom, including students, children, and working-class people. They are: Shree Shuvo Sheel, Riya Gop, Hridoy Chandra Tarua, Saikat Chandra Dey, Tonoy Chandra Das, Ripon Chandra Sheel, Rudra Sen, Dipto Dey, and Ganga Charan Rajbongshi. The death of six-year-old child martyr Riya Gop during the July uprising stirred outrage across the country. She was fatally shot while playing on the rooftop of her residence.
The July Museum preserves mementos and memorabilia of over 500 martyrs from the 2024 uprising, including these Sanatan martyrs. The museum was inaugurated on August 5, 2026, by Tarique Rahman, Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of Bangladesh. Published ahead of Sharadiya Durga Puja, ‘Bisarjan: Sanatan Martyrs of the July Mass Uprising’ is the first Bengali publication dedicated to the Sanatan martyrs.
Regarding the publication, Ehasan Mahamud, Director General of the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum, remarked: “In July ’24, we witnessed how the Awami League's so-called politics of patriotism had merely become a tool to cling to power. Ordinary citizens were indiscriminately killed to preserve that grip. The publication ‘Bisarjan’ documents the stories of the Sanatan martyrs from the 2024 mass uprising. During this Sharadiya Durga Puja, we remember them with deep affection and love.”
Priced at BDT 50, ‘Bisarjan’ is currently available at the July Museum and select bookstores across the country.
