Pakistan Independence Day Highlights Shared Ties, Future Cooperation

DHAKA, August 14, 2026: The 79th Independence Day of Pakistan was observed in Dhaka with a focus on the country’s historic journey, national aspirations and the prospects for stronger relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Speaking at the Independence Day programme, the High Commissioner Imran Haider said the occasion was not only a celebration of Pakistan’s independence but also an opportunity to reflect on the country’s achievements, challenges and future direction.
He highlighted the longstanding people-to-people and cultural connections between Pakistan and Bangladesh, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations through greater engagement, mutual respect and cooperation.
The High Commissioner noted that Pakistan attaches importance to its relations with Bangladesh and expressed the hope that bilateral ties would continue to expand in areas of common interest, including trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people contacts.
He said South Asian countries share a common history, geography and many common challenges, making regional cooperation increasingly important in addressing issues related to economic development, connectivity, climate change and sustainable growth.
The High Commissioner also emphasised the role of diplomacy in building understanding among nations, saying that constructive engagement can help create new opportunities for cooperation while allowing countries to address differences through dialogue.
Deputy High Commissioner Muhammad Wasif read the written message from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, while Counsellor (Political) Kamran Dhangal read the written message from Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar on the occasion.

The 79th Independence Day celebration brought together diplomats, government representatives, political and social figures, members of the Pakistani community and other distinguished guests in Dhaka.

As Pakistan commemorates 79 years of independence, the occasion carries a message that goes beyond national pride—highlighting the importance of peace, partnership and a forward-looking approach to regional relations.
